Maintenance
Guidelines

Nothing enhances the value of a home more than the rich, warm look of a beautiful finished Wooden floor. With Symple care, wooden floors can last a lifetime.

In this floor and maintenance guide below we bring you good and Symple maintenance practices that can extend the life of a wooden floor finish for decades.

Floor Facts:

  • Wood is a product of nature – that is why it varies in colour and graining patterns from plank to plank.

  • Hardwood flooring reacts to temperature, moisture, water and is vulnerable to superficial scratches hence should be maintained periodically and should not be exposed to fluctuating temperature, moisture, water, sand and sharp objects. Any exposure to extreme humidity could result in damage to the wood flooring and wear layer.

  • Hardwood flooring, being natural product, will continue to expand and contract through seasons. Even perfectly installed hardwood floors main consequently experience some separate gaps between planks at different times during the year. Don’t worry! Normally these expansions and contractions should disappear with the changes in humidity

  • Ultra Violet (UV) light has an effect on the Hardwood floor. Prevent UV fading byinstalling curtains or blinds, and occasionally rearranging furniture and area rugs toevenly distribute the exposure to light.

Care Tips:

  • Use recommended wood cleaners only. Never use oil soap, wax-based products, orhousehold cleaners containing lemon oil, tuning oil, or ammonia.

  • Place walk-off mats at all exterior entrances to capture most of the harmful dirt before it reaches the wooden floor to avoid scratches.

  • Place floor protector pads on the bottoms of the legs of furniture.

  • Keep pet claws trimmed.

  • Wipe up food and other spills immediately with a dry or slightly dampened mop.

  • Wooden floors are not termite proof. Like all other woods, they require protection from termites, pests etc. It is recommended that you take a periodical maintenance service from an effective pest management agency.

  • In the event of accidental accumulation of a large amount of water (e.g blocked drainage), please contact our Customer Care representative immediately.

Day 2 Day Care:

  • Vacuum or ordinary household broom is enough for daily removal of dirt. If you want to use a wet mop – please ensure the mop is well wrung and only damp (not wet). Using too much water while mopping can cause swelling, dullness of the surface and may leave a dis colouring residue. We recommend the use of special Dry mop offered at our store along with special wood care cleaning pad for a thorough cleaning process.

  • Removing ordinary stains/surface dullness: use of special wood floor cleaner isrecommended. Contact our Customer Care for correct advice on these cleaners foryour specific floor.

Periodical Maintenance:

  • We recommend the use of a parquet polish coat for lacquered wooden flooring and / or maintenance oils for oiled wooden flooring once or twice a year in are residential environment & more frequently in a commercial one depending on the traffic.

  • Use of a refresher coat will positively impact the life of your wood floor and will takecare of the surface dullness and superficial scratches, and other signs of wear. It helpsin restoring the beauty of wood floors and increases the life.

Maintenance of Deck floor:

  • Periodically rearrange your outdoor furniture, including planters, toys and grills, to prevent sunlight from causing mismatched color patches as well as water gathering beneath them.

Avoid using rugs or mats made of natural materials, which can trap moisture. Plastic or synthetic ones are less likely to have this problem.

Trim nearby bushes and trees to at least 12 inches from the deck to discourage moss, mold and rot.

If your inspection finds boards that are warped or raised, smooth them with an orbital sander to make them level with the surrounding boards.

When mixing a cleaning solution for extremely dirty wood, consider a lower proportion of water for a more concentrated cleaner.

This may be especially effective for long-neglected decks.

If using multiple containers of the same stain or color product, mix them together in a bucket to ensure that the color will be uniform.

Consider applying a waterproofing solution with a pump sprayer.

Apply the waterproofing solution directly to dry boards and let cure for 24 hours. Fill any cracks with wood filler, spackle or caulk, then sand until smooth.

Most composite decking does not require sealants, but some can be stained with product designed for composites to restore or improve their appearance.
  • Learning how to maintain a wooden deck can involve making a long-term maintenance schedule for inspections, cleanings and refinishing as needed.

Attentive wood deck maintenance can keep it looking its best and make it less likely you’ll have to replace the whole thing.
